Baby Black Eyed Leucistic Texas Rat Snake Overview
Leucistic Texas rat snakes are also referred to as Lucy Texas Rats. Each baby black eyed leucistic Texas rat snake for sale is born with a light white and pink color. This color changes to a solid white as they mature. Ours are captive born beauties that are provided the best care possible by our loving staff. They will be around 14-18 inches long at the time of purchase.
Leucistic Texas Rat Snake Care
They are feeding weekly on pinkie mice. We alternate them bewteen live and frozen to ensure they will take either. These rat snakes will do well starting in a 10 gallon tank or terrarium. They will need the below supplies at a minnimum.
- Bedding
- Heating Pad
- Hide Spot
- Water Dish
We do offer a 10 gallon setup that we recommend for all of our baby colubrids. Our setup includes the necessary suppiles and many others prepackaged for one low cost. It can be easily be added to any 10 gallon tank or terrarium creating the ideal setup for these baby snakes.
Availability
Texas rat snakes are still very common within their native range and can often be legally collected (check your local laws) but a captive bred and born individual is less likely to carry parasites and more likely to be adjusted for life in captivity. With proper snake habitat products and attention to husbandry, these animals can thrive with a responsible keeper! Although they’re still not as commonly produced as their corn snake cousins, Texas rats are becoming more popular with the introduction of morphs such as albino, leucistic, and scaleless. They can often be purchased through online reptile shops and classifieds.
Texas Rat Snake Size
Texas rat snakes begin life out of the egg at just over a foot in length, then grow to be around five feet as adults. They will stay lean throughout their lives.
Nore: Be sure that the tank or terrarium you choose has a locking lid. This will enusre your new pet stays safely in it’s environment.
