High Yellow Leopard Gecko Overview

The high yellow leopard gecko is a beautiful classically colored animal with tons of bright colors.

Temperature: Keep leopard geckos between 75-85 F. A basking spot of around 90-95 F is necessary and can be provided using an undertank heat pad (placed on the outside of the enclosure) with a thermostat or an overtank heating bulb. Heat rocks should not be used.

Ambient temperatures should be monitored with a digital thermometer, and the basking spot should be monitored with an infrared temperature monitor. A basking spot is not required at night (enclosure temperatures are ideally cooler at night), but night temperatures should not fall below 65 F. UVB is not required for this nocturnal species but can still be provided.

Humidity: Keep leopard geckos on the dry side, around 40-50% humidity. Leopard gecko enclosures should have ample ventilation. Ambient humidity should be monitored with a digital hygrometer.

Providing a humid microclimate in the from of a humid hide is important to facilitate shedding, and this is easily done by creating an enclosed space containing moist sphagnum moss, or wetting down substrate underneath a hide.

A shallow water dish is recommended. The enclosure can be misted one to three times a week, but should have enough air flow to dry out with a couple of hours.

Size: Leopard geckos hatch fairly large at 3-4 inches. Adults range from 7-10 inches long from head to tail.

Age: Provided proper husbandry, leopard geckos can live anywhere between 10-20 years in captivity. Leopard geckos sold by Josh’s Frogs are at least 4 weeks old.
